In Hades, you play as Zagreus, the son of the titular ruler of the underworld. It's a randomly generated, run-based game about trying (and failing) to escape from Hell over, and over, and over, and over again. There are several weapons to try, countless combinations of upgrades from figures throughout Greek mythology to play with, and many, many opportunities to kick ass (and have your ass kicked).

Oh, and it's got a genuinely touching story with great writing and voice acting that advances the more you play.

Hadestopped Mashable's Game of the Year list in 2020 for all of the reasons listed above. If you missed out on it then, don't miss out on it now.
